Howdy all, The 2007 Legacy sets are on sale for $135. The mintage is limited to 50,000. It includes the proof versions of all the regular coins plus Jamestown and Little Rock in silver proof. Quarters and Presidentials are included. http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ick&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&ddkey=ClickInfo peace, rono
Something you should note, the mintage of the coins in these sets is not 50,000 - the mintage is the same it is for the regular, individual Proof coins. The only thing that 50,000 indicates is the number of packages that will be made for the sets.
I dont believe the Legacy sets are anything special, not to me anyway. The only thing you're really getting thats different is the packaging. As mentioned in another thread, you can buy all of these sets plus the two Commemorative coins seperately for a little less money. If its worth it to a collector to have the Legacy set packaging, well, I guess thats a personal preference. I'm sure they'll come down in price once they get out a little while. I dont find either Commemorative coin very impressive.
I gave up on collector issues from the Mint years ago. Last mint set I bought was in 1984. Same with Unc sets. Virtually everything I buy now was struck in the 19th century, or 90% silver. The only exception is business strike State coins. In general the people who make a profit on current issues are the ones who buy early and sell early, before a reasonable reading can be made on the market. Weren't the initial "no edge lettering" presidential dollars going for over $1000? Looks like they're well under $100 now.
Kanga, Not sure about all of your facts mainly becauxe I don't really care. YOUR POINT IS SOLID. I have really only bought Silver Proof Sets since 1999. The 99 and 01 have done well. Others were a waste of my money basically. This year I will most likely buy none at all. It won't really bother me either. It's hit and miss I'm tired of missing. Give me REAL U.S. coins any day!
