I've found two Canadian half dollars in my purse recently, I don't know when I got them, but I've got a 1972 one and the 2002 Special Edition. They both have the Coat of Arms, they are in a good condition, though they may be a little dirty.
Unless they grade at MS-60 or better they are worth face value. As a rule these coins do not circulate so most of them are in pretty good condition but they need to be mint state to have any kind of premium. Bill
There are also some dates and varieties in the 40's that are quite valuable. If I knew exactly what you had I could give you a better idea. Bill
These are values from the trends section of Canadian Coin News: F-12 $5.00 VF-20 $8.00 EF-40 $14.00 AU- 50 $20.00 MS-60 $45.00 Bill
Bromac, as you are Canadian, what books can I buy with the varieties of Canadian coins? Like the Americans have their redbook and such, but all I can find for us Canadians is the Charleton's guide to coins, and a varities website that looks very unconvincing. Any Advice?
When I was a college student in the 1960's, Canadian Dollars and Half Dollars were among my favorite coins. I remember buying many, many new Half Dollars, putting them in plastic tubes, and storing them away. Now, if only I could find them!!
The recent issues of the Charlton catalogue have whole sections at the end relating to varieties, each isssue concentrating on different types or denominations. The latest (62nd) edition has almost 100 pages of Victorian 25¢ varieties. I don't know of any other references. Bill
