Saw this coin in an auction and was immediately drawn to it. Luckily, my bid held up and I'm thrilled. It took an extra couple of days to arrive which made the wait agonizing. Our beloved mail lady didn't deliver to our house for two days because she claimed the mailbox was blocked. I guess the old slogan about "rain nor sleet nor snow" stopping mail delivery is no longer valid. The sad part is that there wasn't anything blocking my mailbox. I set up a hunting trial cam the second day to prove it, and it did. It further proved that our mail lady is a jerk and didn't like that I complained. When it snows, we will find our mail in a snow drift, or a puddle of slush in front of the mailbox. We aren't the only homeowners who have complained over the years, yet nothing changes. Had there been a car, or something else blocking my mailbox I wouldn't have caused a rukus. But, there wasn't and I know other people on our street complained as well. What I don't understand is why the mail person has to act this way. Why can't she deliver our mail like a million other hard working mail carriers out there. Just doesn't make any sense. Anyway, here is the Trajan....this is the seller's pic. Post any Trajan's or Syrian coins or anything else that you think fits. Trajan,AD98-117. A nice bronze. I'd had lazy mail carriers skip delivering stuff to me. Most of the time though it's a substitute & it's especially bad if it's something I have to sign for. Most of the ones I have to sign for never come to the door, but just leave the note in the box for pickup or redelivery.
The reverse is what caught my eye. Although I'm a sucker for a Trajan as well. We've NEVER had her come to the door when we have to sign for a package. She simply puts the form in our mailbox that claims nobody was home when the attempt was made. Shameful. The sad part is that people on her route have provided the local post office unquestioned proof of what she's doing. But, it hwasn't helped at all. We LOVE when there is a sub mail carrier. it means we won't have drama.
Nice OP. That Trajan was one of a couple of coins that week I would have liked to add to my collection. Went to a good home, congrats on that addition.
I really wanted that one for my thunderbolt collection. Glad you like it too! Thurium in Lucania. Æ13. 2.65 g, 12h; 270-240 AD. Obv.: Laureate head of Apollo left. Rev.: ΘOYPIΩN, Winged thunderbolt, TH monogram below. Sorry you have a crummy mail carrier. You can get a PO box for not very much. Might be worth considering.
Your reverse is especially charming! Thunderbolts usually crackle across the sky and seeing one sitting and resting is unexpected. It is jarring to see behind-the-scenes images of thunderbolts resting between storms. As you like thunderbolts here is a coin with one on both sides.
