I found this nickel a few months ago, I can't exactly remember where but I think it was in a bank wrapped roll. It caught my eye, so I set it aside and it's made me wonder what is up with it ever since. It's very smooth, not like worn down but when you gently feel either face with your finger it almost feels glossy. It's got a brown substance in some of the nooks and crannys which might be dirt, but I am unsure. Then probably the weirdest part is it's covered in small divots that look like pores. Overall the coin shows nice detail (I think the brown...stuff helps with that) and it is shiny like an uncirculated coin (which is surprising because I would suspect the divots and dirt would diminish the gleam). Anyway I have no idea what caused this coin to be so strange and I'm wondering what other people's ideas are and whether it's worth keeping. Thanks
You have a damaged coin. Possibly enviromental damage and then was rubbed clean. Who knows for sure. What is sure, is that it didn't come from the mint like that and is only worth 5 cents.
