Eric P. Newman has passed away

Saw on the PCGS boards that Newman passed away, 106.

That's sad news. He certainly did get to lead a long full life though

 

Interesting article, on the dear fellow (NY Times), from three years ago. May he rest in peace.

He is in heaven now...

His coin collecting legacy will live on forever, nine of his coins are now in my collection. A truly great numismatic legend.

Very unfourtunate but he did get to live a very long life, I'd be happy with 80.

Who the devil wants to live that long? It's as if the good Lord has forgotten me.

 

So far, that thread is the only place on the Internet where there is mention of his passing.

 

Wikipedia hasnt even updated his page, atleast at the time of this post...

 

I didn't even realize he was still alive

 

Well, I for one. My wife has been told that one my one hundredth birthday she will be expected to bake fresh bread so that I can make myself a sandwich from freshly pick produce from the garden.

 

I only talked to him once about his thoughts on the importation of English/Irish Counterfeits and Machin's Mills pieces about 15 years ago. It was at a ANS Symposium. But it was only for three minutes. As everyone wanted to ask him questions ... I have been fortunate to meet and discuss coins with all the great ones ... Breen, Ford, Anton, Vlack, Ringo, Newman. John Lorenzo, U.S.

He was a brilliant and lucky man.

 

Until a couple of years ago I e-mailed Eric a few times.

He answered the next day, every time.

 

I'm glad he was a Christian

 

What has that got to do with anything?
