So I just received a grade for the first coin I have ever sent in to PCGS. Its a 1961 and came back with a MS66RB. From research I can't find much information on pricing. The MS66RD has much more information out there and seems to be what people typically buy. Are RB graded coins even desireable to collectors at an MS66 grade or do most of them strictly only collect RD?
First, welcome to the neighborhood, Eric! I gather that you have not been collecting coins very long. Otherwise, you would have known that the cost of submitting this coin to PCGS (No less!) would far exceed its value. There are three basic attributes for copper cents......Red (RD), Red-Brown (RB) and Brown (BN). Yes, RD is most preferable, but RB or BN may also hold value if the coin is rather scarce. In your case, the coin is not scarce. Chris
They are with older dates. If It's a memorial Lincoln cent (minted from 1959-2008) like your 1961, then they arent really desirable unless in Red or RD. Here are a couple RB's from my collection that are much more collectable: PCGS MS-64+ RB PCGS MS-63 RB
Why. Do. People. Do. This? ??? Why wouldn't somebody ask these questions BEFORE paying PCGS to entomb a common coin? I am flummoxed!
Have low-value common coins TPG'ed. Maybe I'm just not "invested enough" in making PCGS employees and owners rich, eh? "Great googly moogly!"
Depends on the year and grade. Really only missed by one grade. A 67 would have been worth it in any color.
Sure, but I sense a little too much "newbitis" at work. A feeling that "I'm just as likely as the next nobody else that got a 7". At 66RB, NGC list price is $12.50. (I don't belong to PCGS, and won't.)
Probably is realistic for an NGC one, a PCGS one would do better probably more like 20 or 30, its a big gap to 67 there. Being off by one grade with moderns is pretty good for a first try. Many people underestimate how hard they are to find the top grades and to realize it when you do. Most people can't grade moderns well.
