Looks cast, not struck, so I would say it's a novelty fake.

    Let's see what others say.

It looks like it is 1988D to me, but that doesn't mean it is authentic.

Not aluminum. Copper plating removed to expose the Zinc core then smashed between 2 pieces of leather to expand it. We have seen a few on CoinTalk recently.
    Not a Mint Error.

    It is 1988

I think thats what they call it when they alter the coin to make it larger. I think they call it that because of the old saying "everything is bigger in Texas"

    Mike.. It's not Aluminum!
It's an exposed Damage Cent. As I stated.. we have seen these many times before. What you are seeing is the Zinc without the Copper Plating. It's not a Mint Error.
The only year that Cents were made of Aluminum was in 1974 - Here is the information..
I want to share this webpage with you - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974_aluminum_cent

So even if it is real. I would have to surrender it to the us mint since it
    was not authorised for circulation

    No
Someone or some persons figured out how to make this Cent you have found. It was not created at any US Mint. We have seen many before. It's PMD - Post Mint Damage.

    Ha.. why? Throw it away!
They don't want it. It's just an exposed zinc cent :yack:

I'm confused. @paddyman98 , are you saying this is a 'genuine cent', struck by the mint, that has then been altered? I know nothing of moderns, and about as much about Memorial cents, but that thing doesn't look 'real' to me.
