I hit a park today and found the two silver dimes. The 62 (year I was born) is pretty nice but the seated is stained up and thin. Still fun to find. That is the first seated dime I have gotten from this park. Also got some toasted wheaties and one crusty indian head penny. To gone to even show em. Parks usually do that to coins. Especially ones by water. Jim
legality I was wondering yesterday about the legality of taking coins from parks. At least for national parks, if you find a human artifact, for example a beverage container, and it is less than 50 years old, it is considered trash, and you are encouraged to 'pack it out' or trow it away in the provided containers. If it is over 50 years old, it is considered an artifact, and you are not supposed to disturb it, but instead contact the appropriate archaeological agency. How do these rules relate to coins?
Yup, Beat up dime alrignt and you got it while having fun. Melt is about a buck. I could deal with that.
Our county has just put in rules about detecting in our "county" parks. I have permission from the park director at this park to metal detect. I know at state parks they are more strict about detecting. I'm clear and legal. Jim
So then? Sorry Jim, I didn't mean to accuse you. So there are rules about this kind of thing. Where does one find such rules?
nice finds jim!:thumb: i also went detecting today. couple dimes and a couple copper cents. nothing like yours!
If I go to different counties detecting I call the county parks dept. and ask if they have any rules about metal detecting in their parks. You can find state laws on line about state parks. I never do these so I don't look em up. Jim
Jim: Are you going to the FMDAC convention this coming weekend? It is near Pittsburgh. FMDAC.org Check it out. Frank
