I found a 2005 British 50p coin on the street today. I know that this is the US coin section, but since I found it in NEW YORK, it might qualify.

Has anyone else found any foreign coins in change recently?

I find quite a bit from all four corners of the globe.

The most common is canadian and mexican, followed closely by British, Irish, and Euros. This all from rolls of US coins.

I find a lot of Mexican coinage in change. The fact that I'm less than 100 miles from Mexico may account for this, however.

I can't believe the day has come where the US dollar is weaker than the Canadian dollar. The dollar has fallen a long way.

I find foreign coins in rolls all the time, and that's not even counting the US change I find. I've found British 1p, 5p, 10p, 20p, even a 50p, Indian 50 Paise and 1 Rupee, German 1 Mark and German 2 Mark, Thai (I think it was the 1/s Baht), some Aussie 5c, and Bermuda and Bahamas 1c and 5c, Eastern Caribbean group 10c, Hong Kong $1, Greek 10 Drachma just to name the latest ones. Of course, I keep each and every one of them! LOL

I found a Swiss 20 rappen a few days ago, and a Euro 2 cent, while roll searching. But its a rare day to find anything besides the occasional Canadian coin.

Stranded Peruvians Found (not eating eachother yet)

I found a Peruvian copper coin. same circumferences/thickness as a Lincoln, unmilled

(......are there any milled copper coins in the world? [scrunches up face and ponders]
Can someone answer this for real?)

I found the Peruvian thingy looking through a pint mason jar of pure US cents (or things believed to be US cents.) The jar was from my parents house. They were in Peru in 1983. (the year I was born, time to start feeling bad about yourselves, but hey, I own vynils, and yes, we do know what they are, we just pretend not to to be ironic, 'cause nothing is more post-modern and millennial-esq as irony. My, what a long parenthitical. I really should cut down....)

I can't find the Peruvian coin right now. If the date were after 1983, It would mean they couldn't have brought it back with them as a souviner. (Souviner isn't in spell check? WHAT?! That word was borrowed from French in like 1750!) At this point I have no way of knowing if the coin in question was found in change in the states, or brought from Peru.

I find lots of foreign coins around their house, but this one was in a jar so...

All those Canadians spending in the US, coupled with all the other foreigners, buying what are now much cheaper American goods will, eventually, stablize the US dollar, if not drive it back up.

As it is, the weaker dollar makes all those foreign coins (Canadian and other Commonwealth nations, mostly) that I find in circulation much more attractive to RE-circulate.

    What's in a name?

Twiggs and I should be friends, 'cause, you know, I like trees.... [anticipates groans from painfully unamussed users]

Anyway, I don't think you are talking about the kind of twigs that grow on trees, more the kind you walk on. Is this correct Twiggs? (Just judging from your avitar.)

I thought I had found the white coin in a roll of US nickels, as I said earlier. But looking at the size, it may have been a roll of US cents.

When I found it, sometime in the mid to late 90's, I don't recall mistaking it for a 1943 cent, but I may not have been aware of steel cents, as young as I was back then.

At any rate, I am certain it got to my parents house (in the US) from circulation (in the US.) I can't say for certain, however, if it came from a bank roll.

I got a 1 1999 YI JIAO (from China I assumed) - from the guy who cuts my hair. It did not know where it came from, but noticed it in the dimes. He was going to set it aside, but I asked if I could have it. Just thought it was interesting.
