I have this bill, I am trying to translate. correct me if I am wrong but it says:

dat geld mot man vandei liie nahmen van dei bome schiidden kann man't nich

    and

dieser schein verliert seine gultigkeit ein monat noch offentlichem aufruf

any help? I think the top one says something about the note being invalid after a month?

    Bottom one, I am stumped.

Okay, someone was able to translate:

1st line: The money must taken from the people, you can't shake it from the trees.
2ndline: This bill lost its value one month after the public invocation.

    Thanks :)

And just in case anybody wonders about that "odd language": This text ...
Dat Geld mot man van dei Lüc nähmen
Van dei Böme schüdden kann man't nich

... is not Standard German but a local variety. :) Papenburg is in Lower Saxony, in North West Germany. On quite a few notgeld notes you find such mottos etc. in regional dialects.

The person who translated it said it was written in Low German ('Plattdeutsch').

Right. Except that on a notgeld note from a neighboring town a somewhat different version of Platt may be used. :D Oh well, I don't speak that but can to some extent understand it ...
