Nice coin although I'm not sure how one gets from the Comoros to Bermuda without a big chunk of Africa getting in the way.
Wrong thread. This is the "next country" thread. I think you played a coin for the "Follow the leader" thread.
Is it just me or does it seem to be getting harder and harder to keep these assorted threads separate, i. e., untangled?
That is some kind of Sumatra keping, I will come up with more info in 8 hours or less. Nice coin, I have a couple of them.
I believe it is a Malacca Keping from British rule there in the early 19th century. Malacca is now part of Malaysia, not Indonesia so I think you stuck to the rules!
KM lists it under Malacca but indicates they were made in England at the request of merchants in Singapore. "The attribution of the following coins to Malacca is uncertain. All were struck in England, on behalf of merchants in Singapore. All have an Arabic legend Tanah Melayu Land of the Malays, above a rooster." It is dated AH1247 = 1831, KM#8.1 In Craig's 1971 edition of "Coins Of The World" they are listed under Malay Peninsula - Singapore but details were "omitted" because they were considered tokens and "were used indiscriminately, without limitation to any locality". The full write up is very interesting. One of my first coin books along with R.S. Yeoman's Modern World Coins & Current Coins Of The World.
