I’m planning on listing this quarter and wanted opinions on the best way to get the most money. It’s currently in an NGC AU-58 slab but I’m wondering if I would see a higher price if I crack it, give it an acetone bath and list it raw. I thought it was a 62 personally but I refuse to play the crack and resubmit game. They got my money once and I’m not going to give them more to grade the same coin. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
I would keep it as-is. It’s a straight grade, so that is good. Plus there are collectors who specifically look for AU 58 (and prefer them over low MS since there tends to be less hits/marks). Finally, if cracked many might assume it is a problem coin (why else is it raw?); your market should be larger with a problem-free holder.
Don’t crack it out. It appears to be an AU-58 and can be easily sold as such in an NGC holder. Personally, I won’t even look at a raw Barber coin on eBay.
Let somebody else think they can get it in a MS62 holder - they'll pay a hefty premium for the opportunity.
Crack it, check it for Triple Die Reverse, and set a buy it now price of $225. If you auction an AU58 barber 25c these days, you'll net $150.
I'm with others. Don't mess with it, sell as is. From what I get out of those photos, it looks like it's accurately graded to me. Maybe send it to cac? If it truly is MS like you believe and CAC agrees then maybe it'll go gold!
