"My My, those are beautiful pictures." Thanks for posting and please add more when you can. I really enjoy them. Ben
Thanks Ben trying to get all my modern stuff done first, then I can give the older stuff more attention
Actualy you are right I am showing off my collection LOL and am enjoying every moment of it, it has been hidden in the closet for too long LOL
Great organization Outstanding collection. I know how much time and effort goes into the organizing, photographing and cataloging a large collection. My wife says it looks like it's too much work to be fun. But it keeps me out of mischief. I haven't even thought about putting mine on line. How long have you been putting yours on line? How many hours do you put in each week? You have put together an incredible labor of love. Well done! Jony
No, in the German Empire they used an alphabetical "numbering" system, with Prussia first (A, B, C mintmarks), then Bavaria (D), Saxony (E), Württemberg (F), Baden (G), Hesse (H), Hamburg (J). So F was - and by the way still is - the mark of the Stuttgart mint. Nice collection you have there! I am kind of torn when it comes to that - I like viewing other people's collections online but am too lazy to do that with mine. Christian
OK now I am totaly confused as according to Krauss 1800 to 1900 in the Württemberg section were this coin is shown S = Stuttgard & F = Freudenstadt It reads like this Mint Marks C, CT - Cristophstal Mint F - Freudenstadt Mint S - Stuttgart Mint T - Tubinger Mint You have the Monetery reform in 1876 but no mention of closing or amalgamating mints, hence my confusion!
There once was a silver mine in St. Christophstal, and Freudenstadt was basically founded in order to get people to move to that area. And yes, they did mint coins there, but all that was pretty long ago, 17c methinks. Don't know when those older mints were closed, but Württemberg was a duchy (until 1805), then became a kingdom (until 1918) - and as far as I know, all coins of the kingdom were made in Stuttgart. That is definitely true for the post-1871 production; Stuttgart was the only mint in that state then ... Christian
Thanks Christian I am dissapointed that Krauss would get something as important as the correct Mint wrong, I will change the entry.
Very nice! Thanks for the link-and letting me see several coins that I did not even know existed! Love the blue titanium from Gibraltar. I have the original blue Niobium from Austria and now you have inspired me to put together a blue coin collection. Piccasso had his blue period, this will be mine. I'll keep watching to see what you come up with next!- Mike
Thank you Mike & I am busy looking for the Austrian coin LOL Have just posted a pile of modern UK commemrative Crowns and will list them seperatly
