I bought a collection from eBay which was being sold in several lots. The descriptions and pictures were not the greatest so most of it ended up being a site unseen type of buy and a bit of a gamble. The seller seemed genuine and just to be off loading a collection as best as they knew how. Aside from the coins themselves, I really enjoy going through collections to search them. I guess it's the thrill of the hunt! Anyway, the pictures above are some of what I started to search. The results I will post below are from the better or more interesting items in the lot that I've found so far. I've searched the three containers of early wheat Cents (had to check those first the suspense was too much lol)but still have the rest of the box to search from the first picture above! I'm super excited to see what I'll find! I also have a good amount of seated liberty dimes, barber dimes and Washington quarters to go through as well. I will post the results as I get the opportunity to search them.
So far I got some D and S mints from the teens, some being better dates. No 14D or 09S though . I also found a couple lamination peels, one on the 1914 and another across Lincoln's face on the 1923 S. A couple woodys too! I can't tell if that last 1911 is an S or D mint. I'm going to have to dig my 15x or 20x loop out lol. Overall I ended up with some interesting coins so far and some dates I did not have. My favorite so far is the 23S with the lamination peel.
Wow very, very cool nice finds too how much did you pay for it? Also the 1928 is my favorite so far such a nice woody. Thanks, Jacob
Very nice. I see some goodies in there, good mint marks, laminations, brass streaked alloy errors. Have fun with them.
I paid 209.51 for what you see in the pictures plus 8 other 40% halves and 5 war nickels that aren't pictured. I took those out of the lot already bc they were well circulated and I put them in the bullion pile which I'll eventually sell. I usually sell what I don't have an interest in keeping to help fund my next purchase lol. That price also doesn't count the Washington quarters and seated/barber/Roosevelt dime lots either. Those came from the same seller but were different lots. I like the 28 too it's a head turner!
Update, I've searched the 1930s tubes, the nickels, all the wheat cents and guardhouse box. I ended up with some better dates from the 30s but no 31s. I found some later date wheats that are in better shape. I will go back and recheck for some errors that I may have missed. I got several nicer UNC nickels and a beat up 1867 shield Nickel with rays. Some buffalo nickels, a few with lower mintages but nothing extraordinary.
These two intrigued me. The 41 s is in bad shape but I'm not positive I f it's the larger or smaller s variety. The 1918 d Indian head looks circulated but still has a little bit of luster on it. It appears very worn though, I'm thinking it was a very weak strike?
It looks like the full horn is still there on the Buffalo nickel, plus the full readable date - that would not normally be true on what initially looks like a very worn nickel. Curious!
are you sure that the Buffalo isn't the overdate 1918/17-D? I think I see the 7... but I don't know the overdate very well.
Honestly, I'm not sure lol. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to buffalo nickels and with what I think is a very weak strike it's tough to tell. It would be awesome if it was though!
