I dont know if such thread already exist, but it would be great to see some artefacts from roman era.
thanks.. i don't show them much.. i have numerous artifacts. i collected those long before i did coins, but both are related to my study of histories. glad you like them.

I have a few. Plumb bobs and weights are my favorite. They are even better on coins. Gaming pieces like dice or knuckle bones are interesting too: and one on a coin Other weights are neat also (the two on left and middle bottom were for scales), the top right is probably a weaving loom weight (but could be almost any kind of weight), the middle piece is shell shaped and current auction descriptions call it a votive item (like votive candles or money in a prayer box at a church)
There are a couple artefacts in the eastern Roman/Byzantine empire I would like to own, for example an oil lamb or a ring. But the problem is that I really don't know how to determine wheter they are genuine or correctly attributed. - It is easier with numismatic coins I think. Like for instance John A claims that that metal belt thing is Roman. But how does he know for sure? could it not be Persian? or Gothic? Or a third state/entity? I would only buy if it was at first-hand: that is buying directly from an archaeologist store which can guarantee me where they found it and that it was them who digged it up from earth. The price will of course go up, but that is worth imo.
Ken, Great stuff, as always. That is an interesting, and big, key. I would like to see the lock it fit.
