Hey all I want to ask your opinion on this 82 I pulled from a roll today. I personally think it would grade ms66 but I am by no means a professional. This has to be the nicest 82 I have ever seen in person cause usually all of them have a lot of die polishing even the ones that pcgs has on their picture grading page has die polishing. It's nothing fancy but hey it's a pretty coin to me . Thanks in advance. Eric.
Looks nice but I'm not a grader or care about it... but I am interested in the area to the right of the date! Misaligned Die Strike with what? Folded over finned rim, CUD?
That's a good question, I believe in the past I have posted one like this. Not, in the same shape as Erics. I was told folded over finned rim. But, now it makes me wonder.
So now try to imagine this: A brand new, factory-fresh 2018 Cadillac with a dented hood and twisted bumpers; would that go for a premium? Just thinkin'.
google search rat rods, some ppl like the twisted bumpers and such and are willing to pay a premium for ugly cars
Jeez, every time I think I've been apprised of everything under the sun somebody manages to come along and shine a spotlight on something completely new.
I am not trying to bombard the thread. A friend of mine built this one. At auction these pieces of art get a premium. OH, and by the way, what a rush to drive and ride in.
my neighbor built one and he let me take it out for a drive and boy it was a very bumpy scary ride but exhilarating cause it had so much horsepower.
The large date is not as desirable. Small date MS 66 is a keeper. They made 17 billion cents in 1982. The MAD is very slight. As for the other error, IDK if it is damage, or an error. A coin like this I keep anyway because of the condition, even though I know it's not really worth anything. As for a grade it could be 66. Hard to tell from a photo. It looks like zinc to me, does it weigh 2.5 grams? There is something going on by the O in ONE on the reverse. There are a couple of scratches on Lincolns head, and a gouge on his jacket. Upper left.
it's copper and it has the start of slight corrosion on the O of ONE. Your right the large date is not as valuable as the small date but like you I keep them when I find them in this condition because hey it's just 1 cent and personally everyone I find in nicer grades is usually polished heavily and to me that distracts from the coin. I would love to find a small date in this condition or better but to pull one from a roll has been nearly impossible for me.
That is pretty cool looking. My friend Jimmy helped out team Norseman from Red Deer Alberta with their entry to SEMA called Crude Oil. You just got to love rat rods.
I'd be very surprised to see a photo of that coin (OP) on a scale showing 3.1g. It has the color of a zinc cent plated with copper and is showing zinc rot in some places. If it is indeed copper it is RD.
I'll try and get a pic after work tonight. I haven't put it on a scale just going on the ring it made when I accidentally dropped it on counter. Either way I'll post results. I'm assuming you mean red when you said RD?
I'm pretty sure it is zinc. Yes RD is red. I prefer the copper cents. But some of the zinc ones can be valuable. It's just that they decompose so quickly.
