I've never really had any big problem with an Ebay seller.....untill now!
On OCT. 13th I bought an item for around $17 from seller "mikeallen25". Shipping was listed as "Standard Flat Rate Shipping Service" $12.74. Of course I knew this was high so I lowered what I was going to bid. I won and the grand total was around $30. I paid the next day by PayPal and wait a week. I email and hear nothing so I email again and on the 22nd he writes back and says that it has been mailed and I will get it shortly......I wait and email again to only hear nothing....
Today I get the box....that was NOT mailed Standard Flat Rate Shipping Service, and only cost $7 to mail, and it was mailed AFTER he told me it was mailed.

I guess today I understand better how some of ya'll feel when you get a dud like I did.
At least the item was packed good and was what it said it was. I left him neutral feedback...so I can't wait to see what he hits me with

Not to nitpick, but what exactly is "Standard Flat Rate Shipping Service"? The USPS refers to bulk as 'standard'. There is no flat rate for this service that I am aware of and I've done a fair amount of work with USPS bulk mailings.

As for the $7 cost vs $12.74 charge, it is very possible that private insurance and cost of the box was reflected in the $12.74 charge.

If you did not contact the seller after receiving the item to express displeasure and just left the neutral, I suspect he'll hit you with a neg.

Most impotantly, does the coin die have any detail left on it? :eat:

Well Greg....good point. When I see Stander Flat Rate I think of the Flat Rate box for around $8. I knew that this seemed high and I had no problem with that. I thought that he would at least put insurance or something on it but I find no markings of such on the box at all.
EDITED TO ADD---if the cost of the box was added into this it would make me mad...this was one of the worse looking boxes I've seen in along time ;)

As for contacting him. I emailed him yesterday and haven't heard anything and I don't think I will. The first time it took 2 emails over a few days times to get him to tell me it was mailed when it really wasn't.
I don't care about the NEG that much.....I've already got one because I gave the seller one first.....

As for the die....no it doesn't :D I was hoping but it does't. The coin that is with the die (I guess maybe is the same date) is 1968-S.

FYI; you are the second neutral he has received - both for the same thing. He did not return a negative for the other one.

Sorry to hear about it Speedy. Good thing though it was what you wanted, and didn't get ripped that much. BTW, what'd you buy? I'm curious. Sorry. :D

A nickle die. I've been wanting a coin die with some detail still left on it but those go for way too much $$ right now so I decided to try this lot!

I think "Standard Flat Rate Shipping" sometimes translates to "any way I feel like it".

There is, as has been noted, no such thing as a Postal Service "standard flat rate".

There is a Priority Mail Flat Rate which is currently $8.95 for whatever fits into a USPS provided box, up to something like 70 pounds. It's a great deal for heavy stuff going coast to coast. For example, a four pound package going from NY to CA would be $13.45 through "standard" Priority Mail but it's the $8.95 for the Flat Rate Box. I don't see most coins fitting into that category! Supplies, maybe, but not coins.

Although there are many examples of where there are reasonable charges for "Standard Flat Rate Shipping," say up to $2 or $3 for the lightweight items I buy, anything beyond that has become a red flag for me; second only to "contact seller for details" in terms of what I choose to avoid.

I've had the experience of a $5 "Standard Flat Rate Shipping Service" when the item has arrived in a plain white envelope with a stamp or two attached.

I would report him for excessive shipping. Not too sure what you can do about your auction, but you should be able to get his future auctions pulled or at least get his shipping cut.
