What's up, my fellow ancient coin collectors?

I've been busy unpacking some more stuff and setting up my apartment.

I went home (parent's house) on the weekend and was finally able to bring a couple of coins back with me to hold on to! :D I've been missing my coins and it was good to look through them again!

    Excuse the ugly, fat fingers.

This is a pair of Widow's Mites that I got from our dear friend, Deacon Ray. Two of my faves!

Bro doesn't have anything new. But, I got to check out his collection again.

As always, feel free to post completely RANDOM coins.

    Thanks!

Nice coins and flip. These are one of my favorites. I have bought, shown and given away more of these than any other ancient coin.

Here's mine - I was pretty lucky to get a couple in an uncleaned hoard of late roman bronze...didn't need cleaning :) lepton1.jpg

Sorry for the bit of blurriness - this was among the first coins I ever photographed and I have gotten a lot better since then...

The Widow's Mite story is a beautiful lesson in Faith and Charity. To give all you have and to have Faith that the Father will not only provide for you but will replenish you ten fold for your selfless kindness.

The Widow's offering could have been Alexander Jannaeus lepta or prutot. The offering
may have been a number of other Judaean varieties of coin in circulation at the time. I like to think that the coins mentioned in the Bible are the same as the ones in your picture—with the star and the anchor both of which are Christian symbols. I've posted my Judaean collection to show that the Widow's offering could have been any of the coins in the top five horizontal rows. None of it matters really—the coins we call Widow's Mites could have been of the type mentioned in Scripture.

I'm honored that you chose the coins that I sent to you, Erin! I do want you to be happy and safe in your new home! Your fingers are wonderful! Take care!

    Thanks everybody!

I'm actually enjoying my new pad. I've been taking my bearded dragon, Herbert, on tours. Although, he hates his leash. :bored:

I still get a bit scared at night, that's when Dad gets a call. :p But, it's getting better.

I love the parable of the Widow's Mite. It was hard to choose which coins to bring back because I wanted to bring all of them. But, I want to remind myself of this parable's lesson and do my best to follow the lead of the widow.

    Ya'll pwn!

I may have said it before, @Alegandron —but those are premium examples—especially the Hendin 1341.

I found this book on the coins of Palestine for only $10 plus shipping. I have seen it as a sale book on several numismatic book sites. It is a good read, but be aware it is a book shelf hog at 11.5" X 16".

I don't think you have fat fingers. They're actually quite charming.
