I have bought a nice $1 1862 with Salmon P. Chase on it in the condition XF-UC. But I have my doubts about the authenticity. The Paper is thiner than the paper of another large size bills I have got already. Is it known, what the bills from 1862 have got a different paper? Is there other signs of the authenticity I can check?
Why would you buy something if you don't know if it's real. You know, you can buy some Rolex watches for $20. If you bought it because it was a screaming deal, it's probably fake. I do believe the early notes paper is different, but I have never held an 1862 to know the difference.
The early federal currency was printed on thinner paper than later large-size currency, so that's not a red flag. Posting a good quality scan or a link to the sale would help.
Thanks for your help. here ist the link: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Civil-War-E...tmEgaox6LF3GkS55pntPg%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
Okay, the good news is, that note is 100% legit. The bad news is, it has the look of a processed/washed/pressed note. And seeing the seller, I can almost guarantee it is. But, if face up value is all you care about, and that price feels good, it sure shows nice, I like the color on the seals and the cleaning of the note didn't seem to damage the engraving at least at first glance. I'd sure take it in my collection! Just be sure if you bought it for investment purposes, that if you grade it, I believe they would note the restoration and you may get NET or a notation of such on the holder. But it will look just the same, and if you like the look, then I say... enjoy!
If you’re an inexperienced collector, and worried about the the authenticity of Large sized notes, I highly recommend you buy graded notes. Your note looks genuine, but I’m guessing you could have bought a graded note, just as nice for the same money. I bought mine raw from an Executive Secretary where I used to work, and paid $200....then I had it graded. In my humble opinion, any note being sold over $500 should be in a TPG holder...if not I would worry why it isn’t.
