    Hi,

I have just started collecting coins and stamps. The one thing I am interested in is something on ebay. The sellers name is auctionhope. This person is selling a book of first day covers with the coins, there are 36 of them.

Can anyone tell me if I am getting a good deal if I bid against the highest bidder? And how high should I go?

I don't want to pay too much, but I would really like these for my new collection if they don't go for too much.

Can someone let me know what to do? I just don't want to get screwed paying too much.

    Thanks.

A link to the auction would be helpful

I am sorry, I forgot to put the link in, I am so excited I forgot to do that. Yes, that is the link.

Is it at a good price?

    Thanks

I wouldn't bid 5¢ for a St. Gaudens double eagle if the seller said this:

    First welcome to the forum.

Second, it is exciting to collect coins.

Third, I think Hontanai nailed it. "I DON'T DO RETURNS OR REFUNDS" and there was other "fine" print I didn't like.

Be patient, hang around here and learn BEFORE you bid/buy.

I'm actually very glad you asked on this one. I would NOT waste my money. Could be great but too many "red flags" attached to trust.

Since you are just starting out, the best advice I can give you is to avoid Ebay. Find a couple of local dealers and a few internet dealers with good reputations and go with that. The thrill of the Ebay auction process and the dishonest folks who prey upon the crowd make it unsuitable for all but the most expert.

I actually called the person who her name is Hope and she said the reason she doesn't do returns is because she sold a doll once and the lady told her she wanted to return it because it wasn't the right doll. When the lady sent her the doll back she had changed the heads and kept the $400.00 head and put a 1990's head on it. So Hope had the pictures and the proof of this and the lady ended up getting in trouble and getting booted off ebay because of this, it wasn't the ladies first time doing this.

She said there were a couple of other things that made her do the no refunds and exchanges. I would do the same thing if someone did that to me.

I trust this woman she told me everything she has. And has given me all of her other ebay names also, because she does it for other people and she does it at her business. I have looked and seen she has a good reputation.

I guess just because something is in writing doesn't make it so bad. She printed her terms like that to protect herself. There are bad buyers out there also.

So I think I am going to trust my instincts and bid.

Thanks for all your help and I will let you know if I get the bid.

If that were true, I wonder why she didn't leave him/her a negative feedback.

    Lookinforanswer,

Seems you already had your mind made up so why did you ask?

Hope the auction works out well for you if you bid (and yes, the bad pun was intended).

Just let me ask you this? If you call a used car salesman about a car that has 200,000 miles on it and he assures you that it has a new engine, new brakes, new trani etc. do you believe him?

Just a little food for thought as it were. Don't know how long you've been on ebay so can't really tell if you "know the game" and no one really does.

As for coin collecting there are tons of people here that can give you great advice if you want it. You just gotta ask and listen BEFORE your mind is made up.

Ahhhh.... give the guy a break.
He's got her phone number and probly correct street address.
If he's like me and gets screwed, he'll show up on her doorstep & take it out on her husband/boyfriend/father.
    ;)

Btw... there's been a lot of talk about stamps lately.
Are they on the upswing ?
I have a bunch that I know nothing about and was considering selling them on the bay.

I wouldn't bid either. I don't care what the lady said---no returns is no returns and unless you know the seller reall well then I wouldn't do it. Also---as far as I can tell those aren't coins. They are medals, or tokens. You would be better in buying some real coins. Check out the State Quarter First Day Issues if you like that kind of stuff. Proof and Mint sets aren't that high priced and I think you would be more happy with them.

Dont get caught up in the high bidding. I like to bid the low price and if i get a coin or another product, Great! If i dont, i will bid on another coin at a low price. I love EBAY!!

Love Ebay also, but I find very few coins to bid on. And yes - once I determine what price I will pay I do not go over it(I lose a lot of auctions). I also agree with Speedy - I would stay away from this auction. If you do bid and win I hope it works out.
