Glad you're OK and that your home sounds salvageable! Even a mostly-lurker like me misses your positive presence while you're dealing with this catastrophe.

The power of nature is awesome! There are more forces in this universe that can destroy us than we can imagine yet we live and survive.

Great to see you posting, @TIF !

Hmm. That looks interesting but I have a propane-powered 12kW generator on the way. What I'd like is a Tesla powerwall with the ability to charge it via solar or propane. That would be something!

I love provincials and I love Domna, so those tend to follow me home :D

Too bad the excuse didn't fly-- we've been working since the day after Irma :D

That offer is so kind and generous, Gerard! I have a generator on the way and am embarrassed that I hadn't previously bought one.

For those who want to help the island in general, I suggest going through one of these organizations:

    https://www.usvirecovery.org/
    https://vistrong.org/

Although there were virtually no leaves on any trees, and most were broken to their main trunks and branches, things are already greening up nicely. Repairing the buildings will of course take considerably longer.

I'm not certain of the time frame but Irma happened in daylight hours on September 6th. I think the strong winds began around 11 a.m. or so. The brief dark periods in the time lapse were probably something obscuring the camera. Looks like the camera was moved a couple of times before things got really bad.

    ...

The apartment I'm renting gets 2-3 bars of AT&T signal although on the "LTE" network. I don't know what that is or means but it seems far inferior to the 4G network. Even with 2-3 bars I usually can't load a webpage. After working at the condo today I swung by the office to pilfer the wifi signal and catch up on email.

I moved back into the condo yesterday but still have no power, no water, no cell signal, and no wifi... but I'm home and the worst of the mess is cleaned. There's some moldy and stinky sheetrock that needs to be ripped out (and replaced with cement board), plus a bunch of repairs which thankfully are structural and therefore under the condo association's insurance policies.

At the office today, enjoying wifi and cell signal. I sure miss CoinTalk and connection with the rest of the world.

The CoinTalk Ancients Forum has been really good but it won’t be great until you’re back! ;)

I've acquired a lot of great coins since you've been away and dealing with the the unfortunate disaster that impacted your beautiful islands and home. When you're back with us and your power and connections are restored I'm going to design a poster showing the coins that I've accumulated since you've been away and since we've been missing you! Our prayers are on their way!

I admire your determination to stay despite the difficult conditions. I am sure your patients appreciate getting medical care. I am sure you are making a big difference to the people on the island!

I hope you will be able to get time for some relaxing CoinTalking going forward.

Sorry to hear of how you were impacted by that disaster. I have some friends in the Houston area whose homes were damaged by the storms/flooding there. Glad you're back home, and hope the recovery goes as quickly as possible!
