Is this damage, or a strike through? I am referencing the line from nw to se across his cheek, it does not appear to be raised, or have displacement of metal, I am a little confused. It is in a PCGS MS 65 slab.
Did you tag me on this coin once? Did PCGS notice if it was damaged? If not then it could be a minor strike through
Without having the coin in hand, I'm going out on a limb and say that it is a scratch. To me, the (thinner) mark in the field further to the southeast is an extension of the mark that took the brunt of the hit. I'm also assuming that PCGS didn't deem it so severe that it was precluded from receiving a straight grade. Chris
Just so every one is seeing it the same. The hair and both feathers are effected. When I bought it, I thought oh man, that's a pretty big bag mark, and knocked the guy down 5$, but after further inspection, I noticed how far it traveled. The marks in front of the face is mostly shadow- if the mark on the cheek weren't there it wouldn't be noticed. I guess it is just a hmnn?
I agree with Chris on his assumption about PCGS. Also as you had it graded for the RPM, sometimes that is shunted to a different grader concentrating on that aspect.
That is interesting. As @Fred Weinberg said, it's hard to tell from the image. In hand does it look like there is displaced metal or simply a vacant area that could have been caused by a piece of wire?
