I wanted to share a find I got tonight in a loomis roll it's the best I have found in a while. Its not the s or a vdb but wow what a find when im in less than 10 rolls in a $25 dollar box.
Great find for one "from the wild"! Pretty impressive condition, considering that. Neat "woodgrain" toning, too.
There’s always that possibility. Mr. Wilson got a valuable coin swiped and stuck in a vending machine by one of Dennis the Menace’s friends, if you’re old enough to remember that.
Like Mr. Santini has already said, there certainly is a possibility, which is the key word here. It's a fine coin, no doubt, but do you realize (as just one example of many) how often folders are still found that often contain very decent examples of the more common Lincolns? I've been offered more than my fair share, and on a number of occasions, the owner or person who inherited it ended up dumping the contents back into circulation upon learning how little value the coins often hold, at least in comparison to what they were hoping/thinking. It happens. The only point is that there is absolutely nothing that conclusively point to this being stolen from a collection, so implying as much has the potential to sully an otherwise very cool find for the OP.
Mr. Mercedes. I have lived around people who are genuinely crooked. My sister learned how to crack my coin safe at the age of 8. Unbelievable. She is now a professional. Not at cracking safes, but doing unimaginable things to make money. A kid taking coins, that's nothing. My best coins were from the 50's and they were all taken from me.
I would like to think that Lincoln was sitting around in a penny jar all those years until somebody cashed in the contents. It happens. But it also happens that somebody, whether burglar or relative, steals and spends. About 15 years ago a friend of mine noticed a silver dime in change at a fast food restaurant in a declining neighborhood. Turned out to be 1841 in fine condition. Not rare, but almost surely stolen with no way to find the owner.
It's possible but at this point there would be no way to know. All I know is it's replacing a banged up one in my folder now
Mr. Reading Comprehension, or should I say lack thereof. That's all very unfortunate, but has absolutely nothing to do with the post you're intending it as a response to. Please, go back and reread what was said, very slowly if need be; I do believe I was abundantly clear on the point. Your individual experiences, no matter how upsetting or regrettable, change nothing, and likewise in no way prove nor even suggest the OP coin was stolen. Now, if you've any real associated evidence, or anything beyond baseless conjecture, that points to it being so, please do provide it. However, if you cannot, please do be so kind as to stop needlessly sullying an otherwise excellent find for the OP. Fair enough?
The reason I said that, is because of the condition of the coin. If you found a circulated 1909 CRH it would be worn smooth. This one was prob in someone's collection for a long time. Nice wood grain too. When I drove for a car service in the mid 80's, another cabbie had a whole bunch of MS silver dollars cause some kid took them from his father's collection and spent them. Ice cream drivers get rare coins this way from kids.
