Buy a Whitman Lincoln Penny Folder and 10 rolls of pennies from the bank (1) and have your kids help you look through the pennies and fill in the folder. Pull out a map, show them where the mints are located, teach them how to count, how to reroll pennies - get them involved. You've just started a collection for less than $10 and you'll have priceless family time together. (2) But more importantly, they'll grow up to be coin collectors. Over the next 40 years they'll each build enormous and valuable collections of their own. After they've built up these valuable collections you'll arrange for them to each have separate 'accidents' - with the coins being left to you.(3) Take whatever bits of that advice that may be useful to you. NOTES --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1: If that is too expensive you can pose as a Salvation Army bell ringer around Christmastime. This is an excellent way to get coins on the cheap, provided you can make an initial small investment in a used Santa suit from the Goodwill. 2: You'll need to search the roles in advance to pull out any Canadian pennies. I don't know how old your kids are but you don't want to have the 'Canada Talk' until they've been through health class. 3: My dad offered to sell me a coin today. I told him it would be cheaper for me to just push him down the stairs. If you ain't willing to kill another human being for a coin it really makes me wonder if you're cut out for the 'Bloodsport of Intellectuals'.
Fascinating, simply fascinating. Now if I can just figure out if you are a comedian or a sociopath! or
Gregg is an X stand up comic. I know him very well, that's why I make sure he goes down the stairs in front of me.
Actually, coin shops are closing left and right. They have a lot of overhead, and EBay is putting them out of business. Many coin shops, some are experts some are not, some are collectors some are not. It is just a retail business like any other. Only in this case their stock is coins. You have to make connections, and buy good coins wholesale and sell them retail. It is a grind like any other job.
