Legitimacy of 1831 Half Cent?

So my friend said he found this while metal detecting and he gave it to me and I don't know what to think. I was blown away when I first saw it but I just assumed it was 100% fake, It just doesn't look right. Please help my dudes. Much appreciated!

Date digits are a dead giveaway. Chinese fake.

I agree that it's a fake as evidenced by the date.

 

Man, they're even planting fakes in the ground these days.

 

Maybe they thought they would grow into a variety!

 

Prob trying to give it some environmental damage to cover up the fraud, and make it seem more likely that it was genuine.
