I got this one today. Canada 2 ounce silver $30 denomination flora and fauna of Canada series coin. It was pricey but I like it.
I don't usually collect German coins (yet?), but a high quality mark of WW1 vintage has been on my "I might buy one some time" list for a while and I happened to stumble upon a nice one this week. Something to go with my iron crosses .
Turns out it's pretty hard to get a well balanced picture of a bright coin together with black crosses, but this one came out OK
I think they were basically wiped out during the fur trade but held on in some isolated areas, and they've been reintroduced in modern times. I've really liked beavers even since I watched the PBS Nature documentary "Leave It to Beavers," which also has a great title.
I got really scared of a really loud KER-PLUCK cannonball-like sound one night a few years ago on a quiet snowy February evening walk along the golf course nearby. I had no idea what was going on, until I investigated with my flashlight. I saw a Beaver swimming away from his lodge. I thought, "that little guy couldn't have made that huge sound". The lodge was enormous and everywhere nearby were trees that looked like stakes chewed by beavers for building materials. So I got home from my walk, looked up beavers on Wikipedia and found out that they can become frightened by intruders and jump off their lodge and then pound their tail on the surface of the water. Don't underestimate this sound.. . I was a bit more than startled. In tribute here's one:
LCS finds this week. Sad to hear a fellow collector needs to liquidate but glad i could give it a nice new home in my collection.
