Krause lists the Brazil 100 reis from 1883 with a mintage of 2,700 but no premium in value compared to the other surrounding years for which no mintage is given. Furthermore, I now have 3 of these coins with the addition of one found in a junk bin today. If these are so rare, why do I keep finding them, and why is there no premium? Or is the mintage an error? Any ideas? Here's today's pickup.
I would guess that it is a typo. Here it says the mintage was 2,709,000, which seems more realistic based on the availability of the coin. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2251.html
Yeah, I wish. I have a big Brazilian collection and there are a few coins like that with only a few hundred minted.
