Hi guys I have been searching all of the change in my house lately looking for RPM Lincolns to start a set of top RPM's. I have yet to find a single one which is disappointing...but I do believe I found a nice example of the 3 over 3 DDO listed by Wexler! It was completely accidental and I have no shame in being incorrect, but does anybody agree this is the only DDO listed for the '73 S or no? IMG_20171027_214355873.jpg

    I can't honestly say I'm seeing it.

I first noticed what looks like doubling on the TY in LIBERTY, which isn't listed on DoubledDie, which I found strange. To me there are pretty clear splits in the letters. I know the pictures are awful at the moment... Screenshot_20171027-221326~2.png Screenshot_20171027-221245~2.png

The newest image of the date looks like there may be some MD on the 7 and the 3. Not seeing clear doubling.

This is the picture of the example on Wexlers site. I thought just MD too but figured why not, looked it up, and see that it's actually mainly showing on the Center of the 3 and splits off like a 3 pronged fork.

I do not believe so, and there is some experts who do not believe that Wexler's is one either. I might agree with a clear well lighted photo, but would stay on the no side at then moment.

    1. The odd shape to the center of the 3 in the date is like that on ALL 1973 cents and is NOT master die doubling, it is simply a part of the design. That's just how the 3 was shaped that year.

    2. That I know of there is NO master die doubling for any 1973 cent. Whatever it is you are seeing is not hub doubling, and is not master die doubling either. I can't see anything in the photos so I cannot help without seeing actual coins.

    3. The reverse design change has nothing to do with the obverse other than so far there are no known examples of the 1972 style reverse on 1973 cents, and likewise no known examples of 1973 style reverse on 1974 cents. Simply stated, as far as anyone knows, the 1973 is a one year reverse type that has a slightly different design than 1972 or 1974 cents...and this had nothing to do with any master die doubling.

Also if we compare with a 1963 similar DDO of mine

both the middle and bottom of the 3 are visible.

I think though, and I'm not trying to argue the excellent points made, but it may be a Proof Strike that got spent with the rim being as square as it is. That one is listed on Varietyvista and seems pretty legitimate as the actual DDO-001 IMG_20171027_230143669.jpg IMG_20171027_225950281.jpg
