The latest addition is a tetradrachm of Gallienus that seems to have a higher than usual silver content maybe? It's the main reason I got it.

Keith Emmett himself had to attribute it for me, mainly for the year. It is rough.

Though he argues that this period should have little to no silver at all, which I agree.

It's an interesting Tet, to me at least.

Very nice catch, Mat. The silvery look does make it stand out for the period.

Wow @Mat that Galienus is a real winner. What a nice coin.

This is still my one and only Galienus, though I hope to add more next year.

Fantastic coin Mat! I would love to know the minting history of that piece. The 'silver wash' look really makes it stand out.

Does look nice n' silvery. What happened to the obverse legends? Looks almost like it was anepigraphic on purpose.

Cool Gallienus @Mat -really like the silvery color. That is very distinctive and attractive. Why so much silver? Maybe someone at the mint was asleep at the switch.

Nice indeed, very "silvery". Gallienus is the last guy I can kind of tell by the bust on these tets, Claudius II onward...they all look the same to me!

the "silver" is probably tin, since potin is a mixture of bronze, tin and lead.

    Thanks for the replies, everyone!

I figured it may be. Still an interesting look for the coin.

And Keith told me he had a Tet. with the look of actual gold one time, but it wasn't.
Would have been nice to see that one.

As those go, that coin has really great legends. Few are that clear. The beard is also exceptional showing the difference between curly and straight sections. Mine is a different year but much more 'normal' (nice way to say 'letters hard to read').
