They've done worse. Unfortunately. In a better world, these would be considered bad enough to complain about. But we don't have a better world, and compared to some of the other hideous designs they have put out . . . well, in the land of the blind, the one-eyed-man is king.

As noted, this is copied directly from the Declaration. No chance they change it, IMO.

Oh if they were silver, you just KNOW the late night TV shopping channels would color the hell out of these coins. Platinum . . . I dunno. And I wouldn't put it past them to figger out a way to get that chip inside, too. ;)

I wish I could disagree with you, but I can't.

I don't care for any of them. I think the idea isn't bad...but poorly executed. Just not my style.

The designs might grow on me but it doesn’t make any difference. Platinum is not my deal.

    Does
    (a) anyone know the release price of the 2018 1oz is going to be? Or do we have to wait until tomorrow?

    (b) also, why does the 2020 state "Happinefs" on it ?

    (c) do they plan on other sizes such as 1/2 oz ?

    a) You can find that via the U.S. mint pricing table
    https://catalog.usmint.gov/on/deman...Pricing-Grid-Numismatic-Gold-and-Platinum.pdf

    b) Answered already by
    c) No these will be one ounce coins only. Although given the mint's penchant for turning every new thing into a medal lately, perhaps we'll see non coin medals in silver.

    I actually like these designs.

I think I know that the Platinum coin changes designs every year, but I have absolutely no idea what any of the designs are.

Does anyone here actually collect these? Can you show us some pictures of past designs?

I do, but I don't have any pictures. The Wiki page for APE has all the reverse images

I like images of Eagles, so 1997 to 2003, 2005, 07 and the new 2018 are on my hit list.

and they're using an eagle on the reverse again. Missing for a number of years.

Did I miss some article of the Constitution that addresses Lady Liberty's BMI?

I'm sorry. Older I get the more my internal filters seem to wane away. Simply a personal thing with me. Lady Liberty has been displayed so gloriously by Augustus St Gaudens and others in years past. I just can't warm to a Barbie doll image of her. Forgive my flippant comment please.

It is interesting to note that Liberty's weight has varied throughout the ages. Liberty is always a beautiful woman - but she reflects the ideals of beauty in that time. For example, the Liberty on the Capped and Draped Bust series is positively chunky. She slimmed down in the 20th century. The 21st century ideal of beauty is quite thin - and so Liberty here looks more like a Victoria's Secret model than that matronly figure on 19th century coinage.

Only if you'll forgive my snarky one.

I like the classical portrayals as well, but I've been pleased with some of the modern ones, too. I think grace and emotion in the portrayal stand out to me more than ethnicity or body shape.

I've always loved the St. Gaudens and Walking Liberty designs. I've never been as warm to the Standing Liberty Quarter (just standing there staring off into space), Seated Liberty (just sitting there), or Peace Dollar and late Eagle designs (slack-jawed stare).

Yup. And those of us lucky enough to live a long time sometimes find that the "ideal" has changed out from under us.
