@bsowa1029 and @chascat The more I look the more I hate it ha. Im glad i'm being kinda patient at least and not buying on impulse.
The difference between TONING and TARNISH is the same as the difference between being ECCENTRIC and being CRAZY. The only difference is MONEY!
I just don't understand how you consider them attractive. It's like calling this art: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campbell's_Soup_Cans
How do you know this? I actually like the coins you posted, but as for the '21-d...into the melt pile with it. I still and always will question the authenticity of many of the toners I've seen in the past few years...some seem overly perfect and over enhanced to meet the thirst of the modern collector.
There's no need to "question authenticity" if you've seen and handled thousands of them. Your eye and gut will tell you instantly 90% of the time whether it is AT or natural and 99% of the time whether it is market acceptable or not. Experience is key.
You're right about the experience...And mine tells me to beware of unusual beautiful toning as it is in high demand and truly a rarity to find one that's genuine, and when one is, than it's worth it's weight in gold.
You're right, you never did. But a lot of people call it ugly and "tarnish" and I just don't see it. Besides on some, especially the one the OP was asking about, which is AT. I've even had very opinionated ANACS workers discard toned coins, and try to sway me away from buying and submitting them.
There is just no way, (I believe you but metaphorically) it looks like sombody broke a glowstick open poured it over the coin then dipped it in radioactive waste and turned off the lights. Thanks, Jacob
I know, they aren't my coins (to be honest I think the images are slightly edited). Though they are straight grades. Coin #1- PCGS MS65 https://www.pcgs.com/cert/7955669. Coin #2- PCGS MS65 *Don't know the cert number. Coin #3- PCGS MS65 https://www.pcgs.com/cert/80623827 Coin #4- PCGS MS66+ https://www.pcgs.com/cert/81948118 Coin #5- PCGS MS66 https://www.pcgs.com/cert/33253967
In hand, coin #5 is no doubt a beautiful gem. Photo enhancement does no justice to a coin's appearance, but the '21 subject coin is just plain ugly.
