#1 has six days remaining and will be bid up over your level.
#2 is fake as are most of coins offered from countries that don't allow export of coins.
#3 looks OK but is a culture most people have not studied.

Good ideas every one! I am not a dealer but have been happy with coins purchased from Victor, John and Ken (and about a hundred other dealers over the years). There are even good buys on the CT sales area:

Buy from someone on this forum and if it is fake we will never let them live it down...

The first ancient coin I purchased was from a reputable dealer who backed what they sold. As a beginner it saved a lot of heartache and disappointment! Who knows if I would've stuck with collecting ancients if my first purchases were fake or overpriced junk?

There are a lot of good links in this thread, please use them.

    Not taboo.
    Or if it is...
I guess it's a taboo we enjoy breaking.
@Endeavor, you want just one ancient coin? :)
John Anthony is so convenient because he's right here.

Hi @Victor_Clark! Yes yes! You are definitely another person from whom we should be getting our ancients!:banghead::banghead:

You really have been on my mind because I am enjoying the coins you sent to me so much! Looking at your link. Victor! I actually 'need' a Constantine the Great coin right now! I better get over to your place and see what you have that I can afford.

p.s. I don't buy ancients on ebay any more. But if you have a shop over there, I'll go take a look. Is that where your link will take me? I'll find out a bit later today! THanks again!

For certain, browse this thread and look at the quality and history in the coins that you can buy for around $50 unslabbed from reputable dealers who guarantee authenticity:

These are truly fantastic ancient coins, much better than the ones you're considering, and if you're a little patient and spend some time on Vcoins and this site, you'll be much happier with your first ancient coin.

I reverse the common thought process. I do not worry too much about the venue, but concern myself with “do I know and trust the SELLER”. I research them first. That way I do not worry so much about fakes, rather which COIN I want. So eBay, Vcoins, shows, MA-Shops, etc etc are not a problem for me. I could care less.

If you have watched Gladiator or caught the Netflix drama documentary about Commodus and family, you might find coins of that family interesting to start with.

Wait till he finds out the real Maximus lived 200 years after the one in the movie, and he wasn't a slave or gladiator either, though he was a Spaniard.
