A funny thing just occurred to me as a result of the post that started this thread; in both coin and stamp collecting you look simultaneously for two totally contradictory yet amazingly enough not in any way paradoxical things: the most perfect standard condition and the most glaring unusual error.

Could just be a small (De) Lamination Error on the steps.
