Hello Everyone. I have two of the Australian Perth Mint $30 1kg Silver Lunar Series I coins/rounds with Diamond Eyes. If you are not familiar with these pieces, please see the attached pictures. Both pieces that I have are raw and in the original capsule only (no box, paperwork, etc.). All of the Series I 1kg silver pieces from 1999 to 2010 had a maximum mintage of 5,000 each, but the Perth Mint declared mintage was consistently smaller. The declared mintages for each piece is shown below: 1999 RABBIT - 318 2000 DRAGON - 3,404 2001 SNAKE - 349 2002 HORSE - 883 2003 GOAT - 492 2004 MONKEY - 466 2005 ROOSTER - 588 2006 DOG - 504 2007 PIG - 525 2008 MOUSE - 309 2009 OX - 288 2010 TIGER - 300 The two pieces that I have are the 2004 MONKEY and the 2010 TIGER. Please note again that the pieces I have are in just the capsules only. I am trying to get some more information on these and whether or not I should send these in to NGC to be graded. Also, does anyone have any idea what the value of these might be in raw condition, and what the value might be for a graded piece (69 or 70). Please note again that these are the pieces WITH DIAMOND EYES. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
Perth lunar are some of my favorite coins and the kilos are great for seeing all the detail. While I have never owned a diamond eye kilo, my general experience with lunars is that the packaging can make a difference. Selling raw without the boxes will lower the value a bit. Grading could be worth it if you get a 70 but a 69 isn't as clear cut. Also note that the slabs are huge. Personally I don't like the large slabs as they take more room and it's harder to view the entire coin (but others may have a different opinion). Checking ebay prices, someone is asking $1575 for the monkey but no Tigers are available. Neither has sold recently and asking prices aren't reflective of a true market. For $1000 one could sell each coin on ebay but that would likely be less than what you'd like. If you are looking to sell on ebay, I would put the monkey at 1450-1500 with best offer and the Tiger would be higher (2000 with offer). Considering the price I would expect to wait a while before the right buyer came along. However, given the scarcity of the coins, especially the Tiger, you might get lucky and findo a buyer quickly. My estimates are for 69 grades ir raw. Price estimates would increase slightly if graded 70. They would be somewhat lower if sold raw with no boxes (10% lower).
