Valerian with Globe Antoninianus - Attribution Question

I recently picked up this bargain Valerian Antoninianus with the emperor seated with globe reverse. Roman Collector posted a similar (and much nicer) example back in July https://www.cointalk.com/threads/valerian-i-antoninianus-bargain.299483/

The problem I am having with mine is the reverse titles and my confusion over the two examples, with different reverse legends:

    PM TR P V COS III P P

PM TR P V COS IIII PP

Here is mine. On the reverse, it is clearly COS IIII. But is that a TRP "III" or "VI"? Did Valerian even get to a TRP VI? Maybe they voted it to him in absentia while Shapur was using him as a footstool?

This type seems to be a bit scarce, or at least there isn't much online that I can find. Any help would be much appreciated.

Looks like PM TR P V COS III P P to me.

I think you want a P to be a I, but it's actually the line the chair is on.

Ah! I never thought of that. Thank you. These worn-out-dies mushy reverses always confuse me! So RIC 142c it is then.

Close! RIC 142c is TR P V; yours, with TR P III is RIC 142b.

You know I actually had that typed out, but I didn't see TR P III on WW, so I assumed it was a mushy/messed up legend on his coin & went with V.

ACH, that coin should be sent to dane on Wildwinds :)

Valerian was in TRP VIII when captured in 260. I read your coin as PM TRP III COS III PP. COS IIII came in 257 with TRP V so any TRP V or higher must have a COS IIII. Valerian took consulships each of his first years so I (not marked), II and III will match for both offices. The first Wildwinds listing ignored the weak third I of IIII. Wildwinds is a wonderful place but it is a compilation of submissions copied from sales records and includes many errors based on people selling coins they do not understand. Dane does her best to police new listings but she inherited enough issues to take years of editing. There is no reason to expect any type in any year but it is always possible that other possible types will show up using the possible combinations. Of course most of Valerian's coins are undated.

Er, this might be an administrator task - I have been asked by Dane at Wildwinds to remove image links from this post since she made correction. I am not sure how to do this....help?

Here is Dane's email to me about this post -

    Hi Mike

...I just took the time out to

    a) correct the two incorrect entries on wildwinds - one listed as Goebl 61c and the other as Goebl 135 (<- this is a 63c) and

    b) add your coin as RIC 142b.

As a result of the renaming and shifting of the coins in point (a), the image links on coin talk are no longer valid and you should PLEASE delete them from your posting, otherwise it will generate (over time) hundreds and hundreds of error reports and google will think the error is on wildwinds and will pester me to upload the missing images.

So please make my life easier and remove the two image links of the wildwinds coins from your posting.

    Many thanks
Dane PS - as Doug pointed out, I am a "she" not a "he" :)

You can't edit a post after a certain amount of time...I don't remember.

I just reported myself, hoping an administrator picks it up. I am new to this sort of thing...
