It's not on that Brian's coins site through Wexler and I'm not matching it on variety vista descriptions. Any ideas? Thanks

DDO-003 stage B but it does have a bisecting die crack that runs through the same area as the stage B.

I believe this is the same one Rick and I discussed about 6 months ago in a thread.

It can't be Coneca DDO-003 . Mint-mark placement is different on OP coin . It look like there's a good chance it's this one . Keep in mind OP is a later die state, then the one Brian has showing .

    1944-D WDDO-004
Description: Class I, Rotated Hub Doubling
Class I clockwise doubling shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the star, and the date.

    Markers:

    • Obv: Series of die scratches to left of 1 of date; many die scratches in field to right of Jefferson's queue.
    • Rev: Die crack from rim between B and U of PLURIBUS, south through left side of mintmark to dome, then diagonally through top of 3rd column to steps left of 4th column; series of die gouges above small left window; die gouge to right of small right window.
    Cross Reference:

Just about each war nickel there's a variety ,like every silver dollar a vam.
When you're looking at the 1943 P alone there is like 70 +/- varties alone RPM's.

As for the the Op's other post there were no proof war nickels struck other than the 42, and 42 P. no other proof nickels till 1950. So no proof like or proof nickels.
However one needs to visit a time where everything had value, especially medal.
Everything was on ration, so it shouldn't be a surprise anyone that dies were used til they exploded,or were worked and reworked then scraped afterwards.

As for the 1944 D lol at 4:07 am before going in to work I must admit wasn't totally awake.
However who's to say that there can't be a new find ? Again after all look at the war year nickels and varities there are why wouldn't a new find be possible?

Here's a specimen I found and need to get some feed back so @Fred Weinberg .
Here's an 1942 P type 2 proof. Struck with the obv. die of an 42 Proof. How do I know? the obv. die has a dot tear drop shaped on Jefferson's collar. see Image , That dot is a die marker for a very rare 1942 type 1 proof nickel variety.
So My thoughts (29,600) type 1 proofs struck ,going to strike another (27,600) type 2's. Can't use a reverse die of a type 1 to strike the type 2 but you can use dies in good shape for the obv. thus....a type 1 obv. and type 2 rev made this nickel. 1942 P Pf.66 Dot PUP.jpg 1942 P dot.jpg 1942 pf.66 Type 1 Jefferson.jpg 1942 P Type 2 WDDR -003.jpg

Just because there are no proofs for a year/mint does not mean a business strike cannot be proof-like Paddy. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.

I've been collecting nickels for over 50 years, I've never heard or seen a nickel with the term" proof like"...They are either proof or mint state.
