I have wanted a Hun coin of this type for a while, finally acquired one.

    I know @Ancientnoob has some.

Interesting coin @Mat, do all of these have such unusual portraits?

I've always felt the same but haven't pulled the trigger yet. It's a cool coin!!

    Thanks

Yes, and some are better silver than others. Many, the reverse is nearly all missing too. Ones with an intact reverse go pretty high :(

Now, that's a coin you don't see everyday! Interesting portrait too.

Here is a similar small bronze quarter-unit with the same inscription:

    sri-shaho-both.jpg
Hunnic style (Turk Shahi), Baktrian series, 1/4 unit AE, Barha Tegin (?) as Srio Shaho, c. 711-720 AD, 15mm, 1.04g
Obv: Bactrian legend Srio Shaho ("His Excellence, the King"); Bust right with uncertain crown ("trident"?)
    Rev: fire altar

There is a lot of variation on these and I have no idea how to assign them to dates/rulers. I am of the opinion that the 'intact reverse' bias may keep us from proper study since the ones with lesser reverses are not just bad strikes but just the way they were made then and there. My first three are similar with the bull head above the portrait we call Hephthalites, Napki Malik but each is quite different in details that I do not understand.

My favorite is the one I know least about and have seen even similar items less frequently.

Here a variant, with the spikey crown, but the legend in Brahmi script ("Sri ShaHi").

Looks similar to mine. Still not sure if mine is attributed right.
