I recently acquired this bronze coin of Lucius Verus which weighs 8.96 g. and measures 23 mm. Wildwinds describes it as an As for denomination. I wonder if an As of Antioch differs from others of Rome or provincials of the same denomination. The reverse is SC.

Nice coin, although I don't have info on it.

I read in the Sayles book on provincials that these coins may have been intended to be used in areas outside the locality of Antioch, maybe why they have an "SC" ...which is weird for provincial coins. I don't know if the coin would officially be an AS or not?

    Here's a Caracalla of mine.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Yes, it's a different coin. Do you mean a different reverse? Denomination? Value?

"Wildwinds" lists this coin as an " As of Antioch". Given the weight and dimension, is it different from other Ases ?

It is similar to other issues from Antioch during this era. It is not the same as the asses issued in Rome. I may be wrong about this, but I don't think most collectors would refer to it as an as. Most would just call it an AE23 provincial, meaning a 23 mm bronze.

This coin was meant to be used in Antioch and the surrounding areas of what we today call the Mid East. It probably never made its way into Rome.
