Looks like something is definately wrong with the 3, be it an error or not, but I can't seem to see the 4. He REALLY should have taken a closer and larger photo. When it doubt about an error, post the highest resolution photo you can of it. Not a digital enlargement, but an actual resolution from the scan or camera.
It is not a real variety - The coin is supposedly authentic, but they do state that is was a re-engraved 3 over top of the 4 - If it is a real piece it still looks to be in great shape. - its late & I dont feel like staring at the picture long enoght to be sure if it is real or not.
he says: " I am told that this is known to some as a "Smith 1793 counterfeit", a very early alteration. Neat coin!" Still, very neat.
Looks like the "One Cent" is repunched or something as well. It should have worn as evenly as the rest of the relief on the reverse. Guy~
Anyone take a look at his other auctions? Look at the 32-D washington. It looks like the D may be an alteration from the pic too.
