Before seeing the Teletrade thread, I never realized that site existed. Well it's back up and I was browsing it and came across this.

    http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2437&lot=1319

The ANAC's slab says "Date Tooled". I did a google and find many coins labeled "Date Tooled", but couldn't really find a definition as to what it is.

Can anyone explain, or point me to a site that explains, what Date Tooled means?

    Thanks in advance

I'd suppose its an altered date. Not altered to something different, but enhanced to show better detail. (to me, this is a fraud a million times worse than cleaning!)

That's what's happened, but as long as it looks nice, and I get it cheaper for it, I don't care if it has been mounted/ tooled as long as it doesn't look it !

Wouldn't that be analogous to saying that you don't care if it came from a silversmith in China as long as it looks nice?

I would be happy to buy a cleaned coin but certainly never a tooled one  to my way of thinking you have no idea if the date on it is the correct one or if it has been alterd same goes for any mint marks!!
