Interesting Coin

Not sure what this one is. Writing is hard to make out but the back looks familiar. This one weighs about 9.5 grams and is a bit smaller than a quarter. Any ideas?

Marcus Aurelius with Salus? I'd guess an as at that size?

 

Looks like an as of Commodus or maybe Marcus..

 

Does it look like the inscription is of Latin or Greek letters? I don't see an "SC" on the reverse, so I wonder if the coin is provincial. By "provincial" I mean a local coin issued by one of the provinces in the Empire rather than the Roman government itself.

 

My guess is that you are right. Provincial!

 

The reverse has the "S C". The "C" is to the right of the base of the staff/torch being held up. The "S" is very slightly higher on the other side of the figure.

 

Not sure. Provincials sometimes carry S-C as well on the reverse.

 

In that case, I think it's probably an imperial issue.

 

The bust looks like Antoninus Pius to me.

 

I think it the OP coin is an imperial (not provincial) coin of young Commodus.
