It's about 3 grams and the size of a dime with R P on the back. Unable to match the back design with any others. Thanks for the help!

Nice coin. I like those ones with the CONSTANTINVS legends on the reverse.

For Rome mint (RP) all I can find is this one:

    http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/constantine/_rome_RIC_VII_318.jpg

which is not your coin because yours is VOT XX within wreath while this one is VOT XXX within wreath. The reference to RIC 237 above probably is your best bet to ID your coin. Wildwinds is pretty good but doesn't contain all known types in some cases.

Sometimes you will have to roll up your sleeves and bear down to accomplish the attribution of a coin. It can sometimes take some real concentration and work over time to accomplish! At least it sometimes does for me. I get a sense of accomplishment by getting as close to the final attribution of a coin before asking people here. That way, I hope CT experienced members will realize I am really striving to learn about coins.

@nameless, I think it is time for you to slow down with the attribution questions. This forum is very helpful and we want to help occasionally, but day after day of attribution questions is too much. You have asked about attributions of ten coins since Tuesday, and it is only Thursday.

Sorry I'm a bit obsessed with stuff that's new to me. I won't post anymore for a bit.

Like Lacointessa said, sometimes attributing coins just requires a lot of patience.
You know you've got a Constantine, and in the other thread you know you've got a Tetricus. I would go to their Wildwinds pages and browse Vcoins or Ebay and see if I can find a match.

For me, this is half the fun of ancients (or a third, along with the hunt and the opening of the envelope), and every coin you research makes the next coin you research easier, since you've already looked at dozens or hundreds of coins while looking for the last one.

I've had coins that I've held onto for more than a year without an ID. Sure I could've posted them here (and the people here are very obliging), but then I'd miss out on the thrill when I finally stumble across the coin while browsing auctions or when I finally come up with the search term that reveals the ID.

I don't think Valentinian was discouraging you from posting, but rather do some more research before you ask, what may seem to others to be, unnecessary questions.

I'm also new to ancients, but I don't post here often as I'm still wrapping my heels up with the material. I find my best source for attribution is http://numismatics.org/ocre/. I just type the emperor name, and parts of the legends and I usually find a match pretty quickly. It's rather fun to delve deep into the material that's available to us online. You may have even deeper questions or things to share on the forums that way. Sometimes, no matter how hard you tried, you won't be able to attribute the coin, and then things can become interesting, I reckon!

    Welcome to Collecting! :)

Thanks! I actually hooked a coworker up with a few. He's gonna give them to his son and he was really happy with them. I'm gonna keep these two:

The others I'll use as trade bait once I do more research or if anyone here is interested you can have them for what I got them for. These are fascinating so far but I tend to consolidate my collections into a few nice items instead of dozens or hundreds. Can you recommend any auction sites or is vcoins a good reference? Figure I might go for something.

Perhaps a few of us recall previous experiences with people asking help with ID's and then seeing those same coins on eBay a week later. The Commodus sestertius and Carthaginian bronze are decent choices for keepers. Too bad they didn't have reverses and had to stand on end.

You will find the RP coin. Mine is below with his friend RQ. While you are searching for your coin see if you can figure out what other friends these two might have. I might mention that your coin has a nicely styled nose (my RP is very ordinary in that sense but few collectors care about such things).

I'll check what you sent. Thanks! Which of the ones I've posted would you pick over these two?
