Well, I stopped by the coin shop the other day and looked through their Severan material because you know, I hadn't spent any money that day. My daughter played along and worked on homework while I dug through some boxes. I did find a nicely priced coin that fit into my Septimius Severus collection. I have found that I have had some difficulty in finding a FELICITAS AVGG with legends being full. Or they are vastly overpriced, *COUGH* *COUGH* *highrating* *COUGH*.

In any case, I am happy to call this my own.

    20.0 x 18.5mm 3.59gr
O: SEVERVS PIVS AVG; Laureate head, right.
R: FELICITAS AVGG; Felicitas standing left, holding short caduceus and cornucopia.

And from lucernae on the Bay Of E, I was able to find two scarcer issues of Probus. I have not had much luck in finding nice coins at good prices for Probus lately, hence my concentration shift to Septimius and Domna recently.

Probus, Antoninianus, IOVI CONS PROB AVG
    AE Antoninianus
    Probus
    Augustus: 276 - 282AD
    Issued: 279AD
    21.0 x 20.0mm 3.90gr
O: PROBVS PF AVG; Radiate, cuirassed bust, right.
R: IOVI CONS PROB AVG; Jupiter standing left, with scepter and thunderbolt.
    Exergue: R (thunderbolt) B
    Rome Mint
    RIC V-2, 175
    Aorta: B72, O94, R64, T30, M4.
    lucernae 282641257943

This one is a duplicate coin but also on the scarcer side of Probus reverses. It was cheap and thought I could always trade one away if need be.

    Probus, Antoninianus, SECVRIT PERP

    23.0 x 22.0mm 3.20gr
O: IMP C PROBVS AVG; Radiate, cuirassed bust, right.
R: SECVRIT PERP; Securitas standing left, leaning on short column, right hand to head.
    Exergue: (Digamma)XXI
    Ticinum Mint
    RIC 573
    Aorta: 1615: B72, O50, R146, T123, M7.
    lucernae 201550022330
    9/13/17 10/10/17

Thanks for looking. Here is the whole collection as it stands so far. I have a few more pieces of fancy business coming in the mail in the next week and I am very excited while I wait.

@Youngcoin and @Bing: Thanks very much for the compliments. Yes, the detail on the Severus is really great. It’s a little dark but the strike was so nice that it was hard to pass up.

Yes, a beautiful coin, unless the lighting deceives me it doesn't seem too dark (I'm sure it may be different in person) a very nice addition! ;)

    Thanks,

@Youngcoin It is probably just old cabinet toning. It’s a pleasant enough color, just dark. I have many denarii that are bright and this piece is different but still finding a comfortable home here.

It would be amazing to find a coin passed down generation to generation all the way from Ancient Roman Era.

@Mat Thanks pal, I haven’t been seeing a lot of Probus anything that isn’t super expensive or totally junk.
@randygeki and @chrsmat71 Thanks fellas I appreciate it. Lucernae is good people. Can’t always find what I want in his inventory but when I do I am happy to buy from him. Nice Invicto!

Congrats on the snares @nicholasz219 !

Lucerne seems a good source. I have gotten a few from Antonio that I have had no problems with. Spain can get a bad rap due to some copy concerns. Just be careful. In my conversations with Antonio, he has always been diligent. Had an RR Denarius that I sent to David Sear and checked out as Authentic.

    I have a couple Proby's:

RI Probus 276-282 CE BI Quinarius 2.80g Cohen 768

@Alegandron Thanks for the compliments. I have had no issues but good ones with lucernae. There are chances to get a copy anywhere honestly. Just a few days ago I had the Julia Domna VESTAE SANCTAE on my page looked at because of concerns. Turns out it’s a modern cast. Contacted Pegasi and they instantly corrected the issue by issuing a refund. It happens and good dealers make it right without question which is both right and great since none of us will ever be experts in everything.

    Love that Sep Sev!!

I have also purchased from Lucerne and I haven't been disappointed to date.

BTW Have you looked at the Independent sellers on FORVM'S auctions?? You might run across a few nice affordable coins that you desire.

I'll throw in two of my favorites of Probus.....

    Nice Probus coins all.

I haven’t bought anything from Forvm independent sellers. I am never around when Auctions end and if there is a another marketplace within Forvm for coins besides Auctions I am not familiar with it.
