Hello, I'm new to this site and collecting coins. I know little to nothing about coins so I was hoping someone could help me out. I have a running auction on eBay for a little over 400 coins (All are in pure silver). I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough estimate of what they are worth. I provided all the information needed in the auction. I haven't had it appraised and don't really plan to but if someone can give me a rough figure of the value I would certainly appreciate it very much. If anyone could just give a rough estimate of what you think it would make on eBay, that would be great. I have asked around on another forum and I was just looking for more information. Thanks in advance! ~Mark edited - self promotion rules violation
The silver melt value is probably around $670 or so. If that gold coin REALLY is gold, that would bump the total of the collection up a few hundred more. Some of the coins very well might have a value above and beyond their melt value, but that all depends on a variety of factors. But, just assuming all the coins are common-date, and assuming that the other coin is NOT gold (just to be safe), then I would put a base value on the collection of around $680.
jhonn, I do not follow your math. He has $57 of 90% silver and $4.5 (all JFK's since I do not know how many are 64's) 40% silver. Today's silver price is about 9.5 X face (90%). That gives me $560 for the silver melt value. Ignoring the UNKNOWN gold, the bonuses might be $5. I think he would be lucky to get $600 for the lot. icancu202, Just as an aside, the silver coins are 90% silver 1964 and earlier. 1965 to 1970 JFK's are only 40% silver.
Oops, I did not notice that some of the JFK's were only 40%-ers! I quickly plugged all the numbers from the auction into the coinflation.com melt calculator and tallied the results, so the mistake stems from those halves. Your estimate, therefore, is much more correct.
Welcome to the site Icancu202!! I'm new to the site today as well!! I've already learned so much today!! The main thing I can tell you about the value of your coins, or getting help finding their value is to post pictures on this forum and sincere, honest people will give you positive feedback. The amazing plus side of being part of a forum like this is that the moderators watch for spammers and the people on this site care as much about coin collecting as you do, so the feedback you get is excellent WELCOME to the site! My name is andrew and I hope to help you and learn a lot at the same time! ~andrew h
