I was at a Flea Market this Sunday, and I did pretty well, buying the following three coins for just $5. Should I send any to get slabbed? Could I get some recommendations on grades Thank you! Should I sell on Ebay? + Looking to sell if anyone is interested.
I wouldn't say you got ripped off but I also wouldn't say you had a big score. The West African coin is the best of the group. I feel like the Australian penny has been cleaned but I could be wrong. I think you'd pay a lot more to slab any of them than you'd get back for it. I'm sure someone is going to tell you that you did amazing, but I collect all of these coins and unless there's a key date I'm not aware of I'd say you paid around a fair price.
Yea, if that Australian Penny is uncleaned then it's pretty decent. It's hard to find aussie copper still red.
Don't waste your money getting them graded - that will cost you at least $60 or more with Registered Mail. I have never seen a great deal at a flea market.
Nice coins, the British West-Africa piece seems to be in Mint State. I don't think the other two are cleaned. So you did well. But it's not worth the effort to let them slabbed by a TPG.
The New Zealand coin has the most value in high condition. It looks good. I also feel the Australia may have been cleaned. Not much value on that one either way. I really like the British West Africa coin, great condition. $1.50 on the 1933 .50 on the 1949 and: 1941 New Zealand Half Penny value VG $0.35 F $0.70 VF $4.25 EF $32 A/UNC$99 UNC+ $149 So that New Zealand could be a score. Now NGC lists different prices for that coin: .20 in F-12 .50 in VF 20 $30 in XF 40 $100 MS60 $175 MS 63
Those high grade prices for the New Zealand coin aren't realistic. You'd probably get a dollar or two tops. Sorry, I have a complete set for the series. They're just not worth that much. Yes, if you want to sell them, go with eBay. You'll get the most for the West African coin, probably between $3-$5.
Just stating what I saw from 2 online sources. Practical application/ knowledge is always preferable.
While the catalog values for the NZ coin are highly inflated, it's worth more than a couple dollars. Considering it appears to be mint state with the majority, if not all, of the red luster intact you shouldn't have much trouble getting $15-$20 for it.
According to eBay sold, the Australian coin I can get perhaps $20 because it is very lustrous (pics are bad, but it's not cleaned) because they are seldom seen in RD. The new Zealand I don't know because the condition I'm really not sure on. Probably just gonna keep the British West Africa. I'll sell those two coins raw on Ebay. I'll keep you posted.

It does look a lot better in those photos. I don't like those black streaks though. I wouldn't buy it for that reason, but some people might not mind.
Australia and New Zealand coppers have dropped significantly in price and demand. 20 years ago they might have sold for even higher prices than catalogue rates in Red state condition. That said, since 2010 they've been dropping on average about $1.00 US per year. Of course this is based on the Los Angeles area market and some eBay sales I've had since 1997.

For five bucks, pretty good, I say. Major score? No, but not bad at all for the money. I don't see any slab candidates here, but it's fun stuff.
