Good Sunday afternoon everyone. So, I was going through my coins and found this one that I acquired some years ago. I'm trying to figure out is this is just some ugly toning on the coin or if it isn't PVC damage. This is housed in an old fatty holder. I'm not sure if maybe it would not have showed up when it was initially graded and then has surfaced over the years or if it isn't just some type of toning. The darker pictures really emphasize it, but it more looks like in hand what the lighter pictures show. Any opinions or comments about this would be appreciated.
To me, it looks like the beginning of some disagreeable toning. You could crack it out and dip the beauty, but then you destroy your 'fatty'. Where was the holder being stored? Holders are not air tight.
It's being stored in a safe which is pretty air-tight. I've never had any issues with other coins. It also may have been there when I first received the coin.
Possibly a dip gone bad? You never can tell how a blast white coin will end up after it's been in the slab for a while.
It is also a "no line fatty". The groove and key arrangement on the with line ones tend to separate the coin from the label. Sometime the outgassing from the paper label caused coins to tone.
