Thinking about it, I just don't understand how anyone can spend anything over $10 on a foreign coin. Even the ancients shouldn't be worth more than $20. This excludes the early Babalonian coins-they count as intresting.

    They are WAY too exspensive.

Look at the miserable Russian market that people are paying thousands for rubles? Personally, I would prefer to have 1 1907 High Relief St.Gaudens,1796 dollar,or 1815 Capped Bust half dollar... etc coins than anything like that. Even the Wildman thalers are overated, especially as they are so many of them. Why are they so popular anyway ?? And please don't answer with stuff about I think only foreign coins are cool, because that is pathetic. And eagerness about World history cannot enter into it...there is hardly any World history that is really mirrored in coins.....

Apologies if I have offended anyone.:loud:

Foreign coins cost less than American coins and are probably less popular so they are not overrated.

I Like Trees I mean coins with trees.

I'm glad to hear this is satire. Seriously LOL (but not OTF)

    It's satire people.
And believe me, we do not want a 'here we go again' situation.

All the important events in history happened long before coins were invented. There was language, then agriculture, then finally writing. The concept of money is probably right up there with the wheel or the control of fire but this concept pre-dates coins by a few hundred years.

    So why collect any coins.

We should all be out scratching around the desert to figure out how they built the pyramids with only primitive technology. Or maybe trying to put together the original language.

People are interested in all sorts of things and there's a lot more history than just what happened in the US before 1965.

Better question than either of the two:
Why do you collect those little pieces of metal?

(Should I start a new thread?)

This little chunk of silver is worth about 2500 USD....I should be able to get it for 20...I agree :) Wouldnt that be great if prices were so low for great coins? What a collection of coins through the ages I would have. Including some of those US coins!

I guess I'm just stupid, since I've paid a whole lot more than $10 for each of my Japanese gold coins. Hey, I was dumb enough to believe I was gettmg a bargain when I purchased a 1.67g .900 gold 1871 Yen for under $750!

These threads have inspired me. I'm never collecting coins, or posting or reading about them ever again. They are just stupid little bojects with no real meaning in my life.

Nothing - They are no better than coins from the Ukrain, Venezuela ,Japan ,the USA or even friggin Timbuktu.

Its what you like & what you personally care about - I was just making a saterical point.

If I like something enough I will pay whatever I think it is worth & sometimes more.

That I know, my comment was also satirical. Just keeping with the tenor of the thread.

Thankyou for apologising beforehand for offending me.
My post was intended to be sensible, and I am somewhat sad that many people have not taken it seriously. This thread is just plain nonsense.
