Hey i really need some help on this one,.i have found a 1944d that has a Y instead of a T in UNITED .....do i have something special or not , i have never heard of this error before , please help anyone
Unfortunately we have seen many if these. It's not a Mint Error but damage. There is no reason for the Mint to replace the letter T for a letter Y. It took some kind of hit. I see a indentation between the C and E in the word CENT leading down toward the T
It's a 73 year old CENT.. After that much time any ragged hits wear away due to years of circulation... I have seen many in my 30+ years of Mint Error collecting... Hits can literally change the appearance of any coin
agree with paddy, your coin took a hit at some point in its life, copper is soft and easily moved, the hit your coin took removed the center of the crossbar of the "T" leaving the ends and making it appear to look like a "Y".... its PMD...
Thanks, @paddyman98, for your patience in explaining how this PMD can happen. @eddiespin, I just want to say that IMHO quite a few of your comments don’t add anything positive to discussions; there is a sarcasm that at times I appreciate but at other times I think could be misinterpreted by new members, especially. Just think about it, OK?
Yep. The "T" took a hit. It did make it look like a "Y". Fun, if you like these sort of small anomalies, but not an error, as others have mentioned.
Look at this. I cut the middle of the plate with my fast one, and the ump calls it a ball. Kill the ump! OK, I will, I get you, Steve. I don't want to offend anyone...
