So I have a 1976 $2 DOLLAR BILL 1ST DAY ISSUE STAMPED BICENTENNIAL FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE, how do i find the value. I have seen chats about other more available notes But I have been informed The Alabama canceled notes are very limited. Any help?? I have attached a pic.
There were so many of these after the idea was widely circulated. Like most stamp collectors then, I did a few, but they are still barely worth the $2. But occasionally someone will offer them up on ebay or a stamp forum. I don't know why Alabama should be rare as they are near the center of a sheet, which is worth mint about 15-20 on various bids. It shouldn't matter, because all these are "first day" of this note, hence the last A, and just happen to be from Federal Reserve District 1, hence the first A.
I was wondering what a "Bicentennial Nite" is, so I had to click. I found a bunch of these in a library book once. That was fun, even if they weren't really worth much more than face value.
I remember begging my mom to let me skip school and go to the bank and Post office to get some notes stamped (I was in 6th grade). Of course she said no (oh, the horrors of being a young collector in a family of non-collectors!!). But my Grandparents surprised me and got one for me and one for my brother. My brother had/has no interest in coins so I traded him some baseball cards for his note. I'm not certain, but I think the Post Office would still use the 4/13/76 Cancellation for a week or so afterwards. Can anybody confirm this.
I remember a day or two, but where I lived at the time, a city of 85,000 or so, it wasn't a full week.
