The 1785 "African Head" has a very rare (R.8) variety besides the much more common but highly collectible one.

    Extremely Rare 4.2-F.6:

    Common 4.1-F.4:

Now maybe this is not diagnostic but I saw that the 2nd hair ribbon of the common 4.1-F.4 is over the left part of A in AUCTORI while in the very rare 4.2-F.6 it is more to the left and is centered under the A.

Now this coin is worn to bits but the face shows it to be an African Head but is that ribbon centered under the A??

Wow really thought a few of our colonial guys would just love to have a reason to talk about mega-rare Connecticut Coppers.

I'm not a big colonial guy, but to me it appears to be 4.1

Part of it is I struggle find easy to ID differences hence I noticed that ribbon placement was different.
